A Smart Building is a system of “Internet of Things” (IoT) devices such as HVAC systems, Lighting, access control, door phones, digital signage, alarms, etc., that are linked to your data network. This connectivity allows you to monitor and control these devices as needed, often from your PC or smartphone. You can access your various devices to get notified if one particular unit has malfunctioned and needs maintenance, such as being alerted when a security camera is offline, to perform firmware updates, or even to reduce energy consumption by having devices such as your lighting or HVAC systems adjust the brightness or temperature based upon the time of day or occupancy of a certain area. The different types of devices that can be utilized in a smart building system are virtually endless and will only continue to expand as technology continues to improve.
